Good luck! Tameron makes very nice glass. You will be super happy to add this to your SLR bag! Especially with the holidays coming! I'm never without my long lens (which is NOT Tameron. I can but only dream. OK, I really like mine, but it's no longer made.)
PS - Kudos to you for the Rat Race comment. I think you should get a bonus entry just for that!
