My limb is missing

So my husband was straightening up the kitchen counter where our camera sits. He happened to topple over the vanilla reed diffuser...yeah, so my camera ingested scented oil. The view finder is shot, the battery and memory card slots are full of friction...and gunk.

So... I guess that I'm getting a camera for Christmas. We have some ideas...but am curious... suggestions?

Thanks.

Do you want point & shoot or something a little more advanced? I love, love, love my Canon Rebel.

It depends on what features you want and your price range. If you generally know what you want, drop me an email and I'll ask my favorite Costco Employee what he'd suggest, since it's his job to know this kind of stuff.

Or maybe I'll email you, I have some baby questions =)

I was going to go back to point & shoot... we've had our Canon PowerShot SD630 for only 3-4 years. Before that it was an Olympus 500 series... I think.

I like the convenience of video on our Canon. I also like having it in my purse for on-the-go photo opps....

But... I do like the way it looks with a more advanced camera.

Maybe I'm not quite decided.

I wish I had a suggestion. I just don't know about this stuff.

I just read and read and read about cameras because I'm getting one for Christmas too. I ended up choosing between the Kodak Easyshare Z1012IS and the Z1015IS. Consumer reports liked these two fairly well. I went with the 1015 because it's newer and comes with the rechargeable lithium battery pack. There's my two cents.

Good luck!

Ditto what Cabesh said about the Canon Rebel. We have one and love it. It has dummy features for someone like me, and advanced features for someone like my husband. And it's compatible with zillions of different lenses. But you definitely don't want it if you're going for a point and shoot. For those kind of shots, I just use my phone's camera, but they're pretty pitiful pictures. Good luck!
