Some Men are Morons

Today I was browsing the news on my twitter feed and found this gem.

Jimmy Carter is blaming religion for the discrimination and abuse women have experienced.

Former President Jimmy Carter says much of the discrimination and abuse suffered by women around the world is attributable to a belief "that women are inferior in the eyes of God."

Carter said such teachings by "leaders in Christianity, Islam and other religions" allow men to beat their wives and deny women their fundamental rights as human beings.

Are there people now, and in history that have held the belief that women are inferior to men? Yes. Does God believe that women are inferior to men? According to what I know and have experienced as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints, and as a Christian - I would posit the answer is an emphatic no.

Are there leaders, members of various religions, past, present, and future that will perpetuate a mistaken belief. Probably. But those people are responsible for their own, individual actions. They are not forced to act, believe a certain way. Each of us is responsible. There are no excuses, no banner we are allowed to blame, or hide behind.

Jimmy Carter apparently doesn't think people think, and act for themselves. Which, given his own political beliefs is not surprising. The man is past his expiration date on relevance. He's like this irritating cockroach that just won't go away.

God. The God I believe in is eternal, omnipotent and loving. It is not ever God who pollutes the Truth. It is man. It is appalling when man then turns around and tries to pin their sorry behavior on a being they can't even begin to understand.

Get off the road

This morning on my way to drop off my first grader at school I encountered two bad drivers.

1. A white, older than me, guy who was driving an SUV, stopped at the four-way stop before I did, and hesitated. Oh.my.goodness. I can't stand hesitating drivers. Make a decision and move it, before I lose it.

2. There's this street near the school that merges from two lanes to one. I have found that living up in Sac-town vs the Bay Area, this merging business is, for some reason, very complicated to people up here. They don't quite get the concept of every other car. Just like taking turns, or sharing. Or, perhaps they do and they enjoy being, uncouth, classless, discourteous drivers. They probably don't know what any of those words mean, so... there you go.

In the case of this white, unkempt woman in her beat-up mini-van, it might very well be the latter as she high-fived her elementary kid as they squeezed my car out of it's spot and refused to let anyone in.

Apparently, I also care about my car more than she does.

While I enjoy where I live, the inept driving drives me batty.

*I mention the race on purpose... as I live in a predominately white area. So the ratio of really, truly bad Asian drivers is less, because there's less of us. Ha! However, I am the exception to the bad Asian driver stereotype. Remember... I like cars.

Governments should be afraid of their People

image from blingcheese

A couple nights ago I watched V for Vendetta with my husband.

It was...interesting.
I enjoyed the dialogue and the plentiful alliteration...which just appeals to me. Words are fun.

My favorite quote from the movie goes something like:

People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

I totally agree. It is also ... perhaps not a coincidence that we are dealing with the very annals of government moronic, inefficient, multi-layered bureaucracy which doesn't know what the other hand is doing.

We had to pay a HUMONGOUS wad of dough for our taxes this year... it was insane. It was not easy. It physically hurt. But we paid. And the check cleared from our account, way back in April.

The IRS started mailing us letters in October to say we had not paid our taxes. Due to their records, they would also be adding additional fees. Fortunately for us... we have records that show that indeed we did pay, on-time, and that they cleared the damn check.

My husband has had to spend precious time dealing with the morons that are the tax board to figure their own administrative problems out. We did our end of it. We paid our bill. The check cleared. It was stamped and noted with their own codes.

BUT... our exalted government is making it our problem - we have to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that we did indeed pay it, even though they can't figure out where it is, or what codes they used... so they continue to waste precious tax dollars trying to find money, that's already been sitting or wasted in their gov't coffers.

According to conversations my husband has had with the people in this call-center... which are all locating money they can't locate. 50% of the money that comes in... the gov't can't locate... so they spend tax dollars (via phone, mail, manpower) trying to find the tax dollars... is this funny yet? I think my head is going to explode from the sheer lunacy of it all...

Just let me repeat that so I can see it again... the government is spending our tax dollars, to try and find our tax dollars.....

*queue insane, unstoppable crazy laughter*

Does this strike anyone as completely, utterly inane? Imbecilic? Idiotic...

In the midst of this constant back-and-forth with the IRS I received certified mail for my husband and myself, from the tax morons to state that if we don't pay the inflated tax money they can't locate, we'll start having levies against our income...etc...

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

WHY ARE WE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TAX/GOV'T COMPLETE LACK OF INTELLIGENCE?????

It is SAD that as citizens we have to FEAR our gov't and their lackeys and inefficient excuses for departments... it really ought to be the other way around.

We are responsible, we paid our taxes. We paid them on-time.

SCREW-YOU UNCLE SAM.

Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.

My father was a writer. You would've liked him. He used to say that artists use lies to tell the truth, while politicians use them to cover the truth up.

ps... and there are people who want more of this kind of government???! Insanity!

BUSTED

... if Dooced is getting fired for blogging about your job...what is the equivalent for getting called into the Bishop's office, on your wedding anniversary, for tweeting 140 characters?

Maybe I should give a prize out to someone who comes up with the best label.

Ready.Set.Go.

Is your mind reeling. Perhaps baffled? Mine is. Mostly it's also flummoxed. I like that word... it's fun to say.

Apparently some (I am told it is more than one) people in my ward are offended by my tweets and have ANONYMOUSLY told the Bishop - who asked me to ...in the future, censor myself and instead go speak to him when I'm frustrated.

Does anyone else think our busy Bishop has better things to do?

and Dang... if I really did that... they'd have to dedicate a Bishop just for me. I am female. I have hormones... just ask my hubby.

So here I am... unable to face my accusers... or offendees because it's "confidential".

Well... I've got a tagline for 2011... check it.

ps.

Dude... seriously, if you do not like me or what I say/tweet & have the courage to talk behind my back, in presumably a group setting as there were "more than one", but not to me ...here's a tip. How about you just stop cyber-stalking me? Just a helpful thought. Merci!

ticked off Momma

Many things have been going on.

Avant Garde Gal, my 5YO broke her arm on WED afternoon at the park, after a friend spun the monkey bar wheel she was hanging from. 5YO hates to swing, or go fast... so she wasn't prepared and got scared and dropped. She went in to the ER and they put her under general anesthesia to reset the humorous bone. We then spent two miserable nights in the hospital... where at night we had the most incompetent, negligent nurses. The day nurses were spectacular...and it was literally - night and day.

We are home now. We are exhausted as the nights are hardest for her w/the itching and the tingling...plus, it nigh impossible to get truly comfortable with an arm that's heavier than the rest of her tiny body. It sucks to see her suffer like this... but she is so brave...and tries her best. She is my hero.

I'm also still seething a bit from dealing with the nurses, so anything that I find utterly inefficient, unorganized, or simply poorly planned I will vocalize. Unlike most people who like to pretend things don't bother them, or are too busy worried about their social status to voice real concerns... as I am not, nor ever have been part of the "in" crowd... I don't' give a damn. My philosophy is simply "screw what anyone else thinks. BE real. Be yourself. Stand up for what matters."

Inefficiency, illogical reasoning/actions are a MASSIVE thorn in my side. One of the biggest pet peeves. We should USE our brains. That's why they're in our heads...right?!

This post is my warning to the universe... because...until this slow, steady fire of irritation stops burning... the kick-a first, ask questions later chic is on the case.
